Temitope Oriola: Policing's new reality: Mental-health calls under social-media scrutiny
A 22-second TikTok video circulated online recently. It showed three Edmonton police officers in interaction with a person (not shown in the video) in crisis. The byline of the video was “always record when in crisis … police trying to make me feel bad for being in a crisis … that’s Edmonton police for you.” One of the officers in the video said, “Do you want to show the world your cut wrists? If you’re going to film us trying to find us doing something bad, you might as well show the world that you’ve cut your wrists all up and called us saying that you’re trying to kill yourself. That’s why we’re here.” The video garnered thousands of views, shares and comments.
